The Access to Work programme is a government funding scheme run by Jobcentre Plus. It provides financial assistance towards the extra costs of employing someone with a disability. It is available to unemployed, employed and self-employed people and can apply to any job, full-time or part-time, permanent or temporary.
The type of support available includes:
A communicator at a job interview for people who are deaf or have a hearing impairment. A reader at work for someone who is blind or has a visual impairment
A support worker if someone needs practical help because of their disability, either at work or getting to work. Adaptations to a vehicle, or help towards taxi fares or other transport costs if someone cannot use public transport to get to work because of their disability. Equipment (or alterations to existing equipment) necessary because of an individual's disability. Alterations to premises or a working environment necessary because of a person's disability.

Shaw Trust: helps to find work experience, voluntary work, training, paid work and educational placements with a vocational link, for clients in Herefordshire with mental health problems. Support is provided in all these placements. Shaw Trust also provides placements for people with various disabilities in local employment of 16 hours or more for those eligible for the Workstep programme and offers support in these placements. Workmatch is a local charity providing an innovative an exciting range of training projects to help disadvantaged people to fulfil their potential into paid or voluntary employment. All trainees are assessed and given a 'Training for Work' programme tailored to their individual needs and aspirations. Training project include, Art and Design, Catering, Light Engineering, Office Cleaning, Horticulture and Office Skills. Trainees are able to work towards accredited training units (City and Guilds) whilst on our projects.
We liaise closely with Employment and Benefits agencies to ensure that each trainee is given an accurate range of options specific to their own personal circumstances. All trainees placed into work are fully supported by our staff.

L*I*F*T* (Lifestyle Improvements for Today)

Regular physical activity is essential for good health. The L*I*F*T* exercise referral scheme enables people who are referred by their GP, practice nurse or physiotherapist to exercise in an appropriate supervised activity. An initial fitness consultation establishes personal goals, current activity levels and medical history. Then 10 weeks of exercise sessions are available at any venue offering L*I*F*T* in Hereford (North and South) Ledbury, Leominster, Bromyard, Ross On Wye, Kington, Wigmore, Weobley and Much Birch. These include fitness suite sessions, exercise classes and aqua sessions – which caters for a full range and ages aiming to motivate you to maintain regular physical activity for life.
