The ethos, values, personality and style of CAE's work as a charity, consultant, service provider and employer are:
It is an information provider and a forum, not a campaigning group
It acknowledges that it has expertise which it wishes to share and to add to
It is a learning organisation, seeking always to expand its understanding and knowledge. It is undogmatic and pragmatic, seeking the best that can be achieved in all circumstances. It is creative and prides itself on its lateral thinking
In striving for quality, it constantly questions the effectiveness of what it does and how it does it. It believes that charging where appropriate for its services places a value on disabled people in society. At the same time, it believes that as a charity it should give information to all who seek it.

Hereford Adult Placement Scheme
Hillrise, South Bank Road, Hereford HR1 2TL
Tel: (01432) 373 211
The Scheme is run by Herefordshire Social Services and finds suitable kind, experienced and able carers who offer accommodation and care in their own homes for people who need support to live full and independent lives. Placement can be made with individuals, couples or families. Adult Placement carers look after a small number of people. The homes are not 'staffed' in that residents are looked after by the individual or family who live there.
Who Can Apply: Any adult with special needs (including those with serious mental health problems) is eligible to apply. Referral: Once a referral is made, staff will identify suitable carers. You can visit the placement with your family or social worker before you decide if you want to live there. Your Social Worker will be closely involved in the placement and adult placement workers will also visit regularly to help resolve any problems with the placement.
Housing Associations
There are a number of these associations, which are providing publicly funded housing for families and people with special needs.
People who need specialised accommodation and do not currently live in their own home, may wish to contact Social Services about the various options possible. Sometimes an Independent Living Scheme is available. This scheme uses volunteers to provide the ‘arms and legs’ of people who are severely disabled, to live in his/her home if this is their wish. Contact the local Social Services Office for more information.

The You@Home service was launched in October 2005 by Herefordshire Council. It’s there for those who need a little extra help to make life comfortable at home; designed specifically to provide practical assistance and advice with home repairs, improvements or adaptations. Working in partnership with the County’s Social Care and Health Services we want to enable as many people as possible to remain independent. You@Home’s aim is to help vulnerable people deal with problems that arise when having home repairs: financing works, dealing with contractors and ensuring work is carried out to a reasonable standard.
